Maize Senior Breeder M/F
Based in Germany
Define, in close consultation with development teams business the short-, medium- and long-term objectives of the breeding program under his/her responsibility.
In collaboration with the European Maize research head develop the breeding strategy and germplasm structuration to propose new hybrids and build a competitive inbred lines and hybrids portfolio.
Design and implement the strategy and coordinate the program: crossing plan, selection schemes…, and optimize the trialling network.
Optimize breeding strategy by fully integrating breeding software, doubled haploids, genomic selection, disease nurseries, fast cycle schemes, etc.
Supervise and mentor breeders that lead breeding projects within the early grain program. Ensure that all team members follow the company standards (health, safety and environment and other). Promote innovation and maintain high technical and scientific level of his / her team.
Prepare and follow budgets and investments for the Maize breeding program and appropriately justify any deviations.
Develop close relationship with Maize breeders operating in other programs or other territories. Lead local collaborations and propose exchanges with public and private partners.
Guarantee the FTO of the germplasm worked and follow the evolution of the competition germplasm, offers (or implements) the relevant actions (analysis, lines exchange, access to available elite variability, legal action…).
PhD or equivalent in Plant Breeding and Genetics, or a closely related field, is required. Strong demonstrated knowledge in breeding, genetics, agronomy, and application of modern technologies for improvement of maize are necessary.
Experience as a plant breeder of maize or other hybrid crop in a successful commercial program, is advantageous.
Knowledge of the target production region, associated biotic and abiotic stresses, and relevant germplasm base would be appreciated.
Ability to use software for data analyses, management, presentation, and reporting; general competence in statistics and data management is required. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills are needed.
